How many weeks in a month?

While a year can vary – leap or non-leap, or a month can fluctuate in numbers – 28, 29, 30, or 31, the week does not. It is always seven days, nothing more, nothing less. However, different cultures have their own choice as to when the week starts. In the business world, the week starts on Monday. An old history between the Egyptians and the Romans sets aside Sunday as the start of the week. Below is more insight into what weeks in a month look like.

Since months are not equal in days, a straight answer cannot be assigned to how many weeks there are in a month. Let’s start with the month with the fewest days – February. When it is 28 days there are 4 weeks in it. After all, 4*7 = 28. When it is a leap year, the number of days in February jumps to 29. Therefore, it has 4 weeks and one day.

The two remaining numbers of days that make up a month are 30 and 31. When the month is 30, there are still four weeks but with 2 more days. Months with 30 days include April, June, September, and November. Months such as January, March, May, July, August, October, and December all have 31 days. These months also have four weeks but with an extra 3 days.

Weeks in a month calculation

For 31 days in a month:

(31 days) / (7 days/week) = 4.4286 weeks = 4 weeks + 3 days

For 30 days in a month:

(30 days) / (7 days/week) = 4.2857 weeks = 4 weeks + 2 days

For 28 days in a month:

(28 days) / (7 days/week) = 4 weeks

For 29 days in a month:

(29 days) / (7 days/week) = 4.1429 weeks = 4 weeks + 1 day
